My reaction to the last page of the book is shock. Toward the end of the book it seemed like her life was getting better, she had her family and Joel. I thought that she would have been able to make it. When she was at the asylum she liked in disgust at the faces of ex-users who were still completely addicted to their drug of choice. To Her it seemed as if they only couldn’t just wait to get out so they could get another fix. ______ on the other hand, that was the last thing it seemed like she wanted.
_____ the main character doesn’t seem to have a name. As I sit here I can’t remember it or if it was ever mentioned. I thought that maybe her name is Alice but at some point in the book the girl writing the diary said that she was looking at another girl on the side of the street completely stoned, and she was called Alice. Perhaps the writer is in an “out of body experience” looking upon herself rather than another being. I think that because I believe that date was one of the Unknowns marked with a question mark, which generally seemed to mean that she was tripping.
A question I have is why anonymous? Obviously the main character is dead so her identity would not be important after her death. Would they possibly be trying to protect her family’s identity possibly? I think I heard from somewhere that this girl told the story to her therapist and he created the story of Go Ask Alice from what she told him.
I thought this story is based on a true story but I was confused by the book. In the beginning on the copy write page it stated that this book is a work of fiction, then on one of the beginning pages it said that the book was based on a true story so I’m not quite sure what to think.
During the times when Alice tripped, it was interesting that as the reader I got the same confused feeling through reading. I like how I got lost as she did.
